Lavender Glen is a neighborhood of 152 homes located on the west side of Athens, Georgia, approximately 1 hour from downtown Atlanta and Hartsfield Airport. It is situated conveniently on Lavender Road between the Jefferson Highway and Tallassee Road, and it is a fifteen-minute commute from several public parks and such downtown Athens amenities as the Classic Center (for conventions, meetings, and performing arts), the Lyndon House Arts Center, the Morton Theatre, Georgia Museum of Art, Sanford Stadium, and the University of Georgia Coliseum. Also close by are the Public Library, Athens Regional Medical Center, Whitehead, Barrow, and Alps Road Elementary Schools, Burney-Harris-Lyons and Clarke Middle Schools, Clarke Central High School, St. Joseph’s Catholic School, and UGA.
The new Father O'Donovan High School is located across from the neighborhood's entrance. You can make a quick run to pick up groceries or grab a video at the Homewood Shopping Center, just a five-minute drive on Jefferson, or see a movie in stadium seating, eat ice cream, and check out the latest books and fashions at the Beechwood Shopping Center on Alps Road. Outlet shopping at Tanger Outlet Center is a half-hour north on Highway 441 in Commerce, Georgia. Or stay in Athens and shop in the Georgia Square Mall on the Atlanta Highway.
Lavender Glen features a five-acre, community owned green space and wide, well-lit roads safe for biking, running, walking dogs, pushing a stroller, and playing. Many residents enjoy early morning or late evening jogs and strolls on the paved portions of Lavender Road. Plenty of attractions are available just around the corner for children, including after-school sports, lessons, and summer camps offered by the YMCA of Athens (915 Hawthorne Avenue), which is located adjacent to Bishop Park. The Park, between Hawthorne Avenue and Sunset Drive, boasts a track, baseball diamonds, soccer pitches, and an annual fireworks display and celebration on July 4th.
